925

Mark your calendars for Saturday, April 27, 2024, as communities across the nation gear up for the DEA National Drug Take Back Day. From 10:00 am to 2:00 pm, individuals can participate in this event aimed at safely disposing of unused or expired medications. This initiative not only helps prevent substance abuse but also ensures the protection of the environment by keeping these substances out of landfills and water systems.

The event organizers welcome a variety of medications, including prescription drugs, over-the-counter medicines, vitamins, pet medications, medicated ointments and lotions, inhalers, and medication samples. This comprehensive list ensures that individuals can dispose of various types of medications responsibly.

However, certain items cannot be accepted during this event. These include needles, lancets, syringes, bloody or infectious waste, thermometers, aerosol cans, empty containers, personal care products, hydrogen peroxide, business waste, and vaping cartridges or batteries. It’s essential to adhere to these guidelines to ensure the safety and efficiency of the disposal process.

In Bibb County, the DEA National Drug Take Back Day is made possible through a valuable partnership between the Alabama Extension, Alabama A&M and Auburn Universities, the Bibb County Sheriff’s Department, and Woodstock Police Department. These collaborative efforts ensure that the event runs smoothly and effectively, providing residents with accessible drop-off locations for their unneeded medications.

Residents of Bibb County have two convenient drop-off locations to choose from:

Bibb County Sheriff’s Office

Address: 157 SW Davidson Drive, Centreville, AL 35042

Woodstock Police Department

Address: 28513 AL-5, Woodstock, AL

These permanent drop-off locations offer a hassle-free way for individuals to dispose of their medications throughout the year, not just on DEA National Drug Take Back Day.

Participating in the DEA National Drug Take Back Day is an important step towards promoting public health and safety. By properly disposing of unneeded medications, individuals can prevent accidental ingestion, substance misuse, and environmental contamination. Additionally, supporting initiatives like this helps build stronger, healthier communities.

Encourage your friends, family, and neighbors to participate in the DEA National Drug Take Back Day on April 27, 2024. Together, we can make a significant impact on the well-being of our communities and the environment. Let’s work together to ensure a safer, healthier future for all.
