An early morning fire at Tannehill State Park destroyed the General Store on February 28, 2024. Firefighters responded to the park at 4:30 a.m. Wednesday after a camper leaving for work spotted the blaze and called 911. Crews extinguished the fire and made sure the surrounding areas were safe and no one was injured.
This popular landmark at the park was closed at the time of the fire and no one had been there since late Tuesday.
The cause has not yet been determined. The store is a total loss. The Alabama State Fire Marshal’s Office is responding to lead the investigation.
