Local Pastor Delivers Calm & Powerful Message to Brent City Council

The brute force that was applied was an injustice that should have never escalated

A group of concerned local citizens assembled for the Brent City Council meeting on August 21, 2023. Local pastor the Reverend Larry Moultrie was on the approved agenda to address the council. From his timed remarks he made the following chief points:

  • elected officials are accountable to the people who elected them to office
  • those who are supposed to protect and serve we are afraid of them
  • now our young children don’t feel comfortable about walking down the streets
  • now they don’t feel comfortable about talking to the law enforcement
  • officers that were on the scene could have intervened to prevent the violence that resulted

His remarks seemed to be meant for Brent and Centreville officials since he mentioned Centreville several times.  The speaker got no response from the Council or Mayor White since the matter is presently being investigated and there is an ongoing criminal case pending against Latrivia Crews, who is incarcerated in the Bibb County jail. The arrest resulted from an incident last Thursday when police were called to remove two juveniles from a school bus after an alleged fight between the juveniles.

When the mother of one child, Latrivia Crews, arrived on the scene she and one of the police officers ended up in a brawl that resulted in her violent arrest.

Local citizens are concerned about the circumstances of the arrest, the conduct of police officers that arrived on the scene from both Brent and Centreville jurisdictions, and the aftermath of the event that occurred last week.
