Main Street Alabama has announced that applications for its Network Community program will open on February 1 and remain available throughout the month.

The Network Community program offers an entry-level opportunity for communities aiming to revitalize their historic downtowns or neighborhood business districts using the Main Street Approach®. Participating communities will receive guidance from Main Street Alabama on forming public-private partnerships to enhance their districts and begin conversations about early-stage investments. Applications can be submitted in February through the organization’s website.

While only Designated Communities can use the official Main Street brand, joining The Network comes with numerous benefits. Members gain access to all Main Street Alabama webinars, workshops, and conferences at a discounted rate. They also receive an annual onsite presentation introducing the multi-faceted Main Street Approach® and have access to Main Street Alabama staff for ongoing support. For communities interested in becoming Designated Communities in the future, Main Street Alabama offers assistance with the application process.

Currently, 26 communities across the state are part of The Network. Mary Helmer Wirth, president and state coordinator of Main Street Alabama, explains, “If your community is just starting a downtown revitalization program, The Network is a perfect fit. It’s an excellent way to connect and learn about the redevelopment process before diving into more extensive services.”

Since 2014, Main Street Alabama has reported a statewide impact of over $1 billion, including $603.7 million in building improvements, $227.4 million in property purchases, and $175.9 million in public investments.
