Honoring Black History and Community Leaders in Woodstock
By Savannah Logan
February is Black History Month, a time dedicated to recognizing the achievements, contributions, and rich history of Black individuals in America. It serves as a moment for communities to reflect on the past, celebrate progress, acknowledge the present journey ahead, and honor those who continue to make an impact today.
In celebration of Black History Month, the Town of Woodstock is hosting and sponsoring a special event to honor veterans and community leaders on Friday, February 21, at 6:00 PM at Woodstock Town Hall (28513 Hwy 5, Woodstock, AL 35188). The event is open to the public, and all are encouraged to attend.
This year’s speaker includes Dr. Kojo Sarfo, a Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP), best-selling author, and nationally recognized mental health expert from the University of West Alabama. Dr. Sarfo has made significant contributions in the field of mental health, advocating for well-being and awareness on a national level. Also being honored is Yalonda Gaines, a local veteran who served in the Alabama National Guard for eight years. Her service and dedication to both the military and the community make her a role model for many.
Residents of Bibb County are encouraged to attend this inspiring evening to celebrate and support those who make a difference in our local community. By coming together, we not only acknowledge history but also uplift those who continue to shape a brighter future.
