Bibb County voters stayed away from the polls in large numbers in yesterday’s special primary election for Congressional Districts across the State.
Here in Bibb County incumbent District 6 Congressman Gary Palmer took 657 (85%) votes vs. challenger Case Dixon with 113 votes. Statewide Palmer captured 87% of the votes cast.
In Bibb there was a Republican and a Democratic Ballot. 770 voters voted in the Republican Primary, 107 cast Democrat ballots.
Bibb County presently has 15,029 registered voters. The 5.8% Bibb voter turnout is slightly higher than the overall statewide total.
Palmer will have Democratic party opposition in the November general election. Maurice Mercer (D) won the primary vote with over 64% of the (D) ballots cast.
The statewide turnout for this special election was starkly low, with a participation rate among registered voters of 5.2%. Total Ballots Cast: 113,493 Total Registered Voters: 2,165,142

The monetary cost for the state was estimated with the introduction of the special legislative session’s House Bill 1, which called for the special primary election in the four congressional districts.
According to the bill’s fiscal note, it will cost the state an estimated $4.45 million over fiscal years 2026 and 2027 to “reimburse the counties that comprise the 1st, 2nd, 6th, and 7th U.S. Congressional Districts for election expenses.”
