  1. Bibb County Commission Donates to Local Fire Departments

On July 11, 2022, the Bibb County Commission unanimously approved a $25,000 grant allocation to all fire departments for the purchase of updated equipment. Following the commissioners’ request for equipment needs, EMA Director Kirk Smith initiated price inquiries based on the departments’ provided lists. Due to supply chain issues, the initial fulfillment occurred on January 2, where two side-by-side ATVs were acquired, benefiting Greenpond Fire and Brierfield Fire. Additional requests included updated firefighter turnout gear and radio equipment, essential for enhanced safety and operational efficiency. On January 9, in front of the Bibb County courthouse, the Commission ceremoniously presented Brierfield Fire and Greenpond Fire with the newly acquired side-by-side vehicles.

Former House Speaker Mac McCutcheon emphasized the importance of committees in vetting legislative measures, acknowledging the diverse insights and expertise of House members. April Weaver, formerly a representative in the House, now representing District 14 encompassing Bibb, Shelby, and Chilton County, was appointed Vice-Chair of the Committee on Fiscal Responsibility & Economic Development, alongside positions in influential committees such as Senate Rules, Finance & Taxation, Judiciary, Healthcare, and Transportation & Energy. Weaver’s tenure as a state legislator and her role as Region IV Regional Director for the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services under President Trump highlighted her commitment to her district(s). In her new role as State Senator, Weaver displayed continuous dedication, attending numerous district events and launching legislative efforts, notably pre-filing SB-1, known as the “Brad Johnson Act,” aimed at reforming Alabama’s sentencing and probation laws.
