The following is from Bibb County Board of Education Facebook Post of June 9, 2020

“The Bibb County Board of Education has approved an amended calendar that pushes the start date for students back 12 days to AUGUST 18, 2020. Although this decision was not mandatory by the State Department of Education, all school districts have been encouraged by the State Superintendent to begin school later than scheduled to allow for additional preparation and planning for schools reopening for the fall semester. As many of you have read in recent weeks, other neighboring systems and districts around the state have already adjusted their calendars.”

“The ALSDE and State Superintendent Dr. Eric Mackey will release the “Roadmap to Reopening Schools” on June 19. We anticipate this guidance to include answers to many of the questions you have regarding issues related to COVID-19 and the start of school. Please be looking for a parent survey from Bibb County Schools in the coming weeks regarding your issues and concerns with student enrollment and attendance. We know that many of you have questions regarding virtual options for your children. We are working on plans to address those requests and we will be given more guidance on June 19.”

“The modified calendar still includes many of the parameters that appeal to teachers and parents alike, such as a full week for Thanksgiving, two full weeks for Christmas break, a full week for Spring Break, and both students and teachers finishing up the school year prior to the Memorial Day weekend. It does include an additional five days of teacher professional development in lieu of five student attendance days, and all support staff will work their 182, 184, or 185 days according to their salary schedules. Those exact dates have not been determined at this time, but employees will receive communication from the board when those dates are finalized.”

“Finally, we would like to recognize the work and dedication of our students and parents and teachers in completing the 2019-2020 school year under such extraordinary and difficult circumstances. YOU ALL DID FANTASTIC!!! Congratulations to the Seniors of 2020! We’re so grateful that we could see you graduate last week.”
