Woodstock Mayor Jeff Dodson released a statement of sorrow and support, commending his community while mourning the loss of one of their own.

“We were extremely saddened to learn of the overnight fire at at Cedar Ridge Apartments in Woodstock. Our condolences and prayers go to everyone effected,
especially the family of Ms. Kandise Hendrix.” said Jeff Dodson, mayor of the Town of Woodstock.

Eight apartments in the complex were completely destroyed and the Red Cross is assisting the victims. The Woodstock and McCalla locations of First US Bank have announced that they will have a box outside each location to collect new toiletries and other small items for the displaced families.

“We embrace the opportunity to care for each other before, during and after a disaster like this. When something of this nature happens in Woodstock, the citizens of Woodstock and Bibb County come out in force to help the families,” noted Dodson, “Our police department and local Green Pond Volunteer Fire and Rescue have been on-site since receiving the first alarm. We’d like to extend our grateful thanks to the fire departments of West Blocton, McAdory, and Lakeview for their assistance.”

Among the first responders to the fire was Green Pond Fire & Rescue:

According to ABC 33/40:

The fire began at Cedar Ridge Apartments in Woodstock around 2:00 a.m. Wednesday. A woman, 39-year-old Kandise Hendrix, was pulled from the apartment 2-3 minutes after the first units arrived, but later died from her injuries. Hendrix’s child was taken to a local hospital for smoke inhalation.

Authorities say they found heavy smoke and fire in the back of the unit where Hendrix was pulled out. The units shared an attic with no fire breaks, so when the fire reached the attic it spread freely across.

Crews on scene say 8-9 units total were damaged in the fire. The cause remains under investigation.
