The trial of the election contest in Oakley vs. Cooner ended today following about two hours of testimony from witnesses called by Oakley’s attorney. Four witnesses testified about their residence address and eligibility to vote in a Centreville election.
After a brief recess Oakley’s attorney made an oral motion, stipulating to a dismissal because no case had been made to support the contest.
Judge Marvin Wiggins, presiding, accepted the Contestant’s motion and ordered the case to be dismissed.
The dismissal results in Barry Cooner remaining in office as the duly elected City Mayor.
