The Bibb County Special Education Department recently held their first Parent Night for parents and students in Grades 9-12. The event was spearheaded by the District Wide Transition team comprised of teachers from both Bibb County High School and West Blocton High School. The purpose of the event was to share resources and programs in the community for students with disabilities beyond high school. The University of Alabama Crossing Point Program, Alabama Parent Education Center, Disability Rights and Resources, United Cerebral Palsy of West Alabama, ARC of Tuscaloosa- Bibb County Program, Alabama Department of Vocational Rehabilitation Services and the Horizon School were in attendance and shared resources with parents and students. Jennifer Downs, Special Education Coordinator for Bibb County Schools reported she was excited for the turnout for their first Parent Night and plans to make it an annual event to help inform parents of programs and options post high school for students.
