USDA Forest Service Announces New Forest Supervisor for Alabama’s National Forests

The USDA Forest Service has appointed Linwood Butler as the new forest supervisor for Alabama’s four national forests: Bankhead, Conecuh, Talladega, and Tuskegee. These forests span over 673,000 acres across 17 counties in the state. In his new role, Butler will oversee the management, protection, and development of these natural resources, ensuring a balance between the needs of people and the environment through collaboration, science, and technology. He expresses gratitude for the opportunity to serve in this capacity.
Originally from Brooklyn, New York, Butler has 38 years of leadership experience, including roles with the U.S. Air Force, Department of Defense, USDA Rural Development, and the Forest Service in South Carolina, Georgia, Virginia, and Alabama. He holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Trident University International and has been recognized for his leadership with numerous awards at both state and regional levels.
