The Board of Directors for Cahawba Christian Academy is pleased to announce the selection of Dr. John D. Russell, Jr. as principal of the school. He replaces Principal Dr. Steve Morgan, who is retiring. Currently, Dr. Russell serves as a member of the faculty, teaching primarily science in high school, and coaching Track.  

He also serves as Pastor for New Hope Baptist Church in Hale County, and as a Major in the Alabama Air National Guard unit in Birmingham, Alabama serving as Chaplain. 

Dr. Russell, a graduate of Bibb County High School, also has an undergraduate degree from Auburn University, a master’s degree from Samford University-Beeson Divinity School and a Doctor of Divinity degree from The University of the South at Sewanee Tennessee. 

He is married to Elizabeth (Bess) Russell, and they have three children, Isaac, Rachel, and Miriam and two grandsons, Jacob and Oliver.
