Brodie Jackson struck out 10 batters as the starting pitcher led West Blocton Varsity Tigers past Hale County Varsity Wildcats 8-3 on Monday. Jackson gave up two hits and zero runs over five innings while walking five. West Blocton Varsity Tigers got on the board in the bottom of the fifth inning after Carson Deerman singled, scoring one run, Jake Smith drew a walk, scoring one run, Kyle Rudd doubled, scoring two runs, Devin Schmalz doubled, scoring two runs, Alex Brand singled, scoring one run, and Deerman grounded out, scoring one run.
#10 took the loss for Hale County Varsity Wildcats. They went four and two-thirds innings, allowing six runs on five hits, striking out two and walking six. Hunter McRee tossed two innings of scoreless ball for West Blocton Varsity Tigers in relief. The right-handed pitcher gave up one hit, striking out four and walking one. Rudd and Schmalz were tough to handle back- to-back in the lineup, as each drove in two runs for West Blocton Varsity Tigers. Deerman, Brody Cook, and Rudd each collected two hits for West Blocton Varsity Tigers. Caden Fancher paced West Blocton Varsity Tigers with two walks. Overall, the team had patience at the plate, accumulating six walks for the game. Cook and Fancher each stole multiple bases for West Blocton Varsity Tigers. West Blocton Varsity Tigers ran wild on the base paths, collecting nine stolen bases for the game.
Lewis, #10, #42, #20, #15, and #12 each collected one hit for Hale County Varsity Wildcats.
#42 and #15 each drove in one run for Hale County Varsity Wildcats. #10 led Hale County Varsity Wildcats with two walks. Overall, the team had a strong eye at the plate, amassing seven walks for the game. Hale County Varsity Wildcats turned one double play in the game.
