On New Year’s Day, The University of Alabama’s Million Dollar Band (MDB) had the distinct honor of participating in the renowned Rose Bowl Parade, showcasing their musical talent on a global stage. Among the local students proudly marching with the MDB was Hannah Daniel from West Blocton High School.
The MDB, under the direction of Dr. Ken Ozzello, director of bands and professor of music at The University of Alabama, has a storied history of excellence. While the band has previously performed at the Rose Bowl stadium for BCS games, this marked their inaugural appearance in the iconic Rose Bowl Parade.
Dr. Ozzello expressed his enthusiasm for the opportunity to represent the University in such a prestigious event. “The band has never participated in the actual Rose Bowl festivities, but we’ve been to the Rose Bowl stadium for BCS games so this was the first time we were a part of the parade and everything,” said Dr. Ozzello.
Local pride swelled as Hannah Daniel showcased her musical abilities as a member of the MDB. Her journey to this grand stage began with a successful audition, a testament to her dedication and talent as a musician.
Andrew Cox, the Band Director of West Blocton High School, where Hannah honed her skills, shared his thoughts on her achievement. “Hannah has always been a very talented and dedicated musician. As soon as she told me about her MDB audition, we got to work immediately to prepare her for this opportunity,” he said. “During that time, she put in countless hours of practice and preparation work for her audition. The Fighting Tiger Band and I are extremely proud to have Hannah represent our small program in such a large capacity!”
Hannah’s accomplishment not only highlights her individual talent but also serves as a source of pride for the Bibb County community and West Blocton High School. Her dedication and commitment have allowed her to stand out in a band renowned for its musical excellence.
