Randolph Elementary School (RES) has upheld a heartwarming tradition over the past five years during Christmas, reflecting unity and care for their community. Teaming with local quarries, Lhoist and Ready Mix USA, RES has extended aid to children and families in need, embodying the true essence of the holiday season. RES counselor Julie Massey led the initiative, providing a list of children in need with their clothing and shoe sizes. Committed to giving back, Lhoist and Ready Mix USA split the list and generously fulfilled the needs of each student, ensuring a brighter Christmas for them. With support from the local grocery store, Sav-Mor, both companies assembled discounted boxes of food, showcasing their unwavering dedication to making a meaningful difference. Originally focusing on essential clothing, the project expanded to include presents and toys, reflecting collective generosity. Discreet distribution ensured surprise Christmas gifts for families, adding a touch of magic to the season. This year, the initiative supported 25 families and impacted 61 children, irrespective of their age, demonstrating a commitment beyond elementary school years. Ready Mix USA’s continuous support throughout the academic year, from monthly birthday parties to library book contributions, highlights their enduring dedication to student welfare. Principal Hollie Tillery emphasized the initiative’s profound impact, acknowledging the pivotal role played by the involved entities, particularly RES counselor Julie Massey, in restoring faith in humanity. In a heartfelt tribute to the late William Daniel Hubbard (1944-2022), known as Bill Hubbard, a significant event unfolded on Sunday, December 10, at The Hubbard House within the Cahaba Biodiversity Center. The occasion commemorated Hubbard’s generous contribution that led to the establishment of the University of West Alabama’s Cahaba Biodiversity Center. Hubbard’s belief in education and environmental stewardship was at the core of this commemoration, as he envisioned teachable moments for students on the property. Spanning 2,100 acres in Bibb County, this land holds rich biodiversity, including rare flora and fauna along the Cahaba River. The center has become an educational haven, welcoming scholars, facilitating research, and offering an interdisciplinary platform focusing on biodiversity, conservation, and various academic disciplines. The commitment to conservation is reinforced by substantial portions under conservation easements, with an endowment aimed at perpetually maintaining this legacy. Contributions supporting the Center are encouraged, fostering an enduring educational experience for future generations.
