By Savannah Logan

Ten years ago, the State Board of Education introduced a list of accomplishments aimed at preparing students for higher education, the workforce, or military service. Starting with the class of 2028, securing a college or career ready indicator will become a prerequisite for high school graduation in Alabama, replacing the need for a graduation test. These indicators encompass various milestones such as achieving benchmark scores on standardized tests, attaining qualifying scores on AP, IB, or ACT exams, earning college credits, obtaining credentials, completing apprenticeships, or being accepted into the military. The Alabama State Department of Education highlighted 20 school districts with the highest percentages of graduating seniors achieving these indicators, with Bibb County School System ranking impressively at 95%. Nine schools achieved a perfect score of 100% in readiness indicators, showcasing the exceptional dedication of educators and students alike. Bibb County School System attributed its success to diverse educational initiatives, including AP courses, dual enrollment programs, work-based learning, and career and technical education pathways. The district’s commitment to fostering student success through partnerships and programs remains unwavering, ensuring students are equipped for their future endeavors.
