Last Friday night was not the night the West Blocton Tigers wanted. The Sipsey Valley Bears were able to make a comeback and end the game on top 28-27. The record for the Tigers is now 2-2 and they are 0-2 in class 4a region 3. There have been a couple of speed bumps and the Tigers have been knocked down a bit, BUT that is not going to stop these young men from getting where they want to go.

The offense for the Tigers against Sipsey Valley was led by quarterback Trey Lawley and running back Nate Barron. Trey completed 4 passes on 10 attempts totaling 70 yards with 1 touchdown. Nate Barron had 21 carries totaling 80 yards of rushing and he had 1 touchdown. The highlights of the offense would not be complete without mentioning Landyn Scurlock. Scurlock is the left tackle on the offensive line. Multiple times during the game you could find him 10 – 15 yards down the field blocking one of the Bears’ defensive linemen. Scurlock ended the game with 4 pancakes and 5 unbelievable effort plays.

The defense for the Tigers had its ups and downs. There was some great plays made but it wasn’t enough to get the Tigers to the win. Tony Mancuso made a big impact on the defensive line with multiple pressures on the quarterback and he ended the night with 1 sack. Kevin Montgomery also played really well with 6 solo tackles and 1 interception.

The special teams for the Tigers played solid all night. Kevin Montgomery even took a kick return back 90 yards to score the first touchdown in the second half.

The West Blocton Tigers will take on the Montevallo Bulldogs for another class 4a region 3 showdown. The Tigers will be playing away at Montevallo.

The West Blocton community supported their team well on Friday night. The Tigers can always count on a supportive fan base. Expect the West Blocton Tigers to have a big fan group at Montevallo this Friday.
