The sounds of practice echo off of the banks of the Cahaba, as the Bibb County Choctaws work hard to prepare for this season. As you know, the off season and fall practice has been full of new rules and numerous unknowns due to the Covid-19 virus. But as the season gets closer and closer, the players are doing a great job in preparing, while following the CDC recommendations as they do so.

This years team will see some new faces as Bibb moves forward after one of the most successful seasons in school history. Though several key players have graduated, the Choctaws have had players step in and step up and fill these positions.

On offense, Senior Cole McCarty returns under center for his second year as the starting quarterback. He will be joined in the backfield by fellow Senior Deshun Murrell who returns as the starting running back. Senior Letrell Morrison will backup Murrell at the running back position.

Sophomore Mikah Bayles has earned the starting spot at the H-back position, with Junior Tyler Hudson as his backup. Seniors Baylor Hughey, Morrison, and Junior Steven Cash will start at wide receiver positions.

Senior Landon Kinard returns as the starting left tackle. Junior James Windham gets the nod as the starter at left guard with Junior Corbin Payne also getting some playing time at this position. Senior John Hunter Watkins returns as the starter at center while Juniors Bo Burkes and Preston Young anchor down the right side of the line. Senior Logan Browning will start at tight end.

On defense the Choctaws return a good core on the defensive front. Seniors Jerell Lockett and Ketion Heard will start at the defensive tackle positions. Senior Logan Browning and Junior Jaqwon Lockett will start at the defensive end positions. Seniors Cade Brown and Zack Gibson are the starting linebackers with Sophomore Gauge Boothe seeing some playing time at linebacker as well. Junior Parker Mitchell will start at the spur position this year.

The secondary will see Cash and Morrison starting at the cornerback postions with Junior Dillon Williams and Senior Jacob Hobson starting at the safety positions. Junior Cade Ingram and Senior Travis McKenzie will see playing time at corner this season as well. Sophomores Colby Collums and Jacob Simmons will see some action at safety.

Coach Geohagan had this to say, “I am proud of both the players and the parents in the jobs they have done in following the new guidelines this summer. I would like to thank the parents for trusting the coaches this summer with their kids. We have had a great summer and fall camp and are excited to get this season started. Go Choctaws”

The Choctaws will return to the 4A classification this year. They will kick the season off August 21st at home against the Greensboro Raiders.
