Ben Thomas of AL.Com took a look at the Class 4A race for the coming high school football season and found Bibb County football in the mix. Here are some of his comments from his August 13 Class 4A preview:

Serious contenders:

Bibb County: The Choctaws won their first 12 games a year ago before losing at Briarwood Christian in the quarterfinals. They received nine first-place votes in the preseason poll and are ranked No. 2, just behind ACA.

Team to Beat: American Christian

This class, perhaps more than any other, seems to be wide open. UMS-Wright, which won the last three titles in dominating fashion and 33 straight games overall, has moved up to 5A, opening 2020 for a new champion. Chris Smelley’s ACA team has won 23 of its 26 games over the last two years and reached the quarterfinals each season.

If I could only watch one game: American Christian at Bibb County, Sept. 18

These two teams combined to go 23-3 last year and start the season ranked at the top of the preseason Class 4A poll. American Christian is No. 1. Bibb County is No. 2, despite actually receiving more first-place votes then ACA (9-8). The Patriots feature a pair of versatile college recruits in Kamari Lassiter and Cam Jeffery. Bibb County boasts UCLA commit Deshun Murrell at running back.
