After the first day of qualifying for the municipal elections in Bibb County on Tuesday, July 7, several new names have entered the arena.

In the City of Brent Cynthia C. Winegard qualified to run against incumbent Mayor Bobbie White.

Asked about her candidacy Cynthia Winegard had this to say: “I do not want Brent to be one of those small cities that falls by the wayside. Being an active, aggressive advocate for our city is the way to stop that from happening and as mayor that is my plan. I look forward to and am excited for the opportunity to serve and to be a part of positive change for the city of Brent.”

No filings were made yesterday in the Town of West Blocton.

In the Town of Woodstock incumbent Mayor Jeff Dodson re-qualified to continue as Mayor along with Councilwoman Ernestine Johnson. Also, Candice Rice qualified to run for City Council in Woodstock.

The Bibb Voice will provide updates as additional candidates file to run for council and or mayoral seats in Bibb County.
