In the first day of qualifying for municipal elections in the City of Centreville some new names have qualified and entered the contest.

According to City Clerk Megan Batte well known local Mike Oakley qualified this morning for the Office of Mayor. Incumbent Terry Morton has announced that he will not seek re-election to the post he has held since 2016.

Former Police Chief Mike Nichols qualified to run for City Council against incumbent Calvin Elliot. This race covers Council District 5.

Contacted for a statement candidate Mike Oakley said: “I am proud of the service that I have been able to render to the City of Centreville over the years in various capacities that I have been involved with; and I look forward to continuing that momentum through the office of Mayor. My experience in education, business, military and civic involvement will all help me to talk to industry and business leaders and let people know that Centreville is open for business when opportunities come along. I am looking forward to leading my hometown in a positive direction.”
