Bibb County State Representative April  Weaver will Chair Important House Committee.

Rep. April Weaver has been chosen to serve as chair of the House Health Committee, which is tasked with handling all healthcare related legislation during the 2018 – 2022 quadrennium. Four years ago, she made Alabama history when she became the first woman to chair this committee.

“I am proud to remain as chairman of the House Health Committee and I look forward to tackling the challenges that lie ahead, especially as we work to resolve the developing rural healthcare crisis in the state,” Weaver said. “I will continue utilizing my years of experience in the health care field to improve the lives, health, and medical services of my fellow Alabamians.”

Since taking the helm of the Health Committee four years ago, Weaver has served on state and national committees tasked with combatting the on-going opioid abuse crisis and has guided numerous healthcare-related bills and measures through the complex legislative process.

Alabama House Speaker Mac McCutcheon also appointed Weaver to continue serving on the prestigious Internal Affairs Committee, which is responsible for disciplining members who violate House rules and handling other matters related to the body’s operations. Weaver will continue her service on the House State Government Committee, as well. That committee handles legislation governing non-education state agencies, state government policies, and other matters. It also works to implement cost-cutting measures and efficiencies while often serving as a watchdog panel regarding the use of state taxpayer dollars.
