Alabama Congressman Mo Brooks is re-introducing legislation that has been before Congress in previous sessions but may gain traction this time around. Brooks wants to use drug cartel money seized from Mexican traffickers to fund Trump’s border wall and other needed security measures at our Southern border. While the rest of our Congress dithers Brooks is at least coming up with ideas to get things moving. I give him credit for working while some of our less motivated Congressman have been reported to be on vacation in Puerto Rico.

The EL CHAPO Act reserves approximately $14 billion in assets forfeited to the United States Government as a result of the criminal prosecution of El Chapo, the former leader of the Sinaloa drug cartel, as well as other drug lords, for border security funding measures to include construction of the U.S.-Mexico border wall.

Brooks also sponsored the EL CHAPO Act in the 115th Congress.

Brooks also made it clear that a wall would not fix all of the problems posed by the southern border, but outlined how a physical barrier would help immensely with border security.

“A border wall is a subpart of overall border security. It will not keep out all drugs or every illegal alien, but we owe it to the victims of drug overdoses and illegal alien crime to do absolutely everything in our power to stop illegal aliens and their drugs from coming across our southern border and killing thousands of Americans every year! The EL CHAPO Act funds a large portion of the border wall without using taxpayer dollars and provides an alternative funding mechanism for the border wall. With the EL CHAPO Act we can end the current impasse and resulting government shutdown. Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer should listen to the American people and come to the negotiating table so we can secure our border,” he concluded.

Now, if Brooks could just get the R’s and the D’s into the building for a sit-down maybe there could be a negotiation (that is how business does it) everybody could go back to work, and the PEOPLE’S economic freight train could stay on the track long enough for us middle roaders to benefit a little.

Somebody is going to PAY THE BILL for the thousands of migrants, asylum seekers, dreamers and any other categories of humans crossing our southern border every day.  You can believe that it won’t be the people you see on the news arguing for open borders and sanctuary cities in America paying that bill. That bill is going to eventually shouldered by the middle class working working American taxpayer and it is going to come out of your paycheck just like the other mandatory taxes that you are not in control of now.

So my friends, you live in the wonderful garden of the Southeast and you may think that the border crisis does not affect your world. That clock is ticking and our time is coming. The bill is going to come due. America cannot sustain the uncontrolled and limitless flow of immigrants across our borders, North or South. This is my opinion and not a political statement. If you disagree your comments are invited.
