Brent, Ala., March 23, 2026—Forest Service firefighters are responding to a wildfire at the South Sandy Shooting Range near Hale County and Tuscaloosa County, approximately four miles southwest of Duncanville, Alabama. The South Sandy wildfire is approximately 290 acres and is 25% contained as of 9:00 a.m. on Monday, March 23, 2026. Officials have closed the shooting range and it will remain closed to the public with tentative plans to reopen on Thursday, March 26, 2026. Be aware that there will be residual smoke in the area of South Sandy Creek as well as Duncanville for the next few days. Wildfire safety is critical to protecting both natural ecosystems and human communities.
