Brent Hubbert is back in a familiar role.
The Alabama High School Sports Hall of Fame member and three-time state champion coach will make a return as Maplesville High’s next head coach, the school announced on Monday.
Hubbert replaces Brad Abbott, who is retiring from coaching after 30 years. The Red Devils went 15-0 in 2025 and captured the Class 1A state title.
Hubbert’s first stint as a head coach at Maplesville came from 2004-2018, where he compiled a 166-26 overall record with 10 region championships and three straight state titles from 2014-2016.
Including his three seasons at Jemison from 2001-2003, Hubbert has a 241-59 overall record and 47-20 postseason mark across 24 seasons as a head coach.
Along with his three state championships at Maplesville, Hubbert has coached four teams to state semifinal appearances and one runner-up finish. He was officially inducted into the Alabama High School Sports Hall of Fame in March of 2025.
Brent followed his own father, Jim Hubbert, into the Hall of Fame. They rank 1-2 in Maplesville football history in coaching wins. Jim Hubbert had two tenures at Maplesville, 1984-86 and 1990-2000, finishing with a 144-43 overall record at the school. He also coached the school’s first state title in 1996.
