Read Across America Week is underway, and West Blocton Elementary School is encouraging families to spend time reading together. The school will host a Family Reading Picnic on March 6, where parents are invited to bring lunch, blankets and a favorite book to enjoy outdoors with their children. Pre-K through fifth-grade students will participate at designated times throughout the day: kindergarten at 10:45 a.m., third grade at 11:15 a.m., second grade at 11:30 a.m., pre-K at 11:45 a.m., fifth grade at 11:45 a.m., and fourth grade at noon. School leaders hope the event encourages families to share the joy of reading while promoting literacy among students.
