Centreville Mayor Election Contest Scheduled For Hearing

The election challenge contest filed by Mayor Mike Oakley against Mayor Elect Barry Cooner has been set for a hearing on October 27. This will be the first time the parties are scheduled to appear in court on this case.  Bibb County Circuit Judge Marvin Wiggins has been assigned to this case.

Both parties have filed Motions in advance of the hearing. The parties have filed a joint motion

to allow for the parties and/or his designated representatives to examine certain election materials from the August 26, 2025 Election, including the ballots that were cast and other election related documents, such as absentee ballots, provisional ballots, poll worker lists, and voting lists.

Mayor Elect Cooner has filed motions to dismiss which the court will consider.

Judge Marvin Wiggins entered an Order on Friday October 3 granting the document examination requests, however, no date has been specified for that examination  to take place.

Under Alabama law (Code of Alabama 11-46-21(c) elected municipal officials take office on the first Monday in November following the election.

 

Whether the election contest will be adjudicated by that date is unknown as of this writing.
