ALGOP Praises Trump Decision to Bring U.S. Space Command to Huntsville

HUNTSVILLE, AL — Today at the White House, President Donald J. Trump formally announced that U.S. Space Command will relocate its permanent headquarters back to Huntsville, Alabama—correcting a politically motivated decision by the Biden administration.

“Today’s announcement on the relocation of Space Command is a tremendous victory for the State of Alabama as well as for the men and women who dedicate their lives to keeping our nation safe,” said ALGOP Chairman Wahl. “The Republican Party and our elected officials have been strong advocates for returning this critical piece of national security back to Huntsville where it belongs. The Air Force and Inspector General identified Redstone Arsenal as the most cost-effective and strategically best location. Today, a wrong was corrected. We are proud of President Trump’s leadership and his recognition that Huntsville is the right place for the U.S. Space Command.”

This long-fought victory for Alabama follows the Biden administration’s decision in 2023 to reverse the original selection of Huntsville—an outcome widely criticized as undermining both military readiness and fiscal responsibility. Independent reviews by both the Department of Defense Inspector General and the Government Accountability Office (GAO) found no justification for the Colorado decision, while Huntsville remained the superior candidate.

Chairman Wahl continued: “Alabama has long been at the heart of America’s aerospace and defense industries, and we are proud to continue that tradition of service to our nation. I could not be prouder of the people of Huntsville, and of our state’s role in protecting the freedoms we hold dear. Today is a great day for Alabama, for our military, and for the future security of the United States.”

The State GOP also recognized the Alabama Congressional Delegation for their part in fighting for Alabama’s future and this critical project. “We extend our deepest gratitude to Alabama’s Republican Congressional Delegation—Senators Tommy Tuberville and Katie Britt, and Congressmen Dale Strong, Robert Aderholt, Mike Rogers, Barry Moore, and Gary Palmer—for their tireless leadership and unyielding advocacy. Their perseverance ensured that Alabama’s merit won out over the left’s political agenda.”

Why Huntsville Was Right—and Colorado Was Wrong

  • In 2021, the U.S. Air Force officially designated Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville as the preferred location for Space Command, based on superior cost-effectiveness, infrastructure, and readiness.

  • The Biden administration reversed course in 2023 and selected Colorado, a blue state that voted for President Biden in the 2020 election, despite it being ranked 5th during the selection process conducted by the U.S. Air Force.

  • Independent reviews by the Department of Defense Inspector General and GAO reaffirmed that Huntsville was the best location for Space Command headquarters, found no justification for President Biden’s decision to select Colorado over Huntsville, and noted a lack of cooperation from senior Biden administration officials during the probes.
