MEET THE CANDIDATE
Mike Smitherman – Candidate for Mayor of Brent, Alabama
I am honored to have the opportunity to speak to the citizens of Brent, Alabama.
My name is Mike Smitherman, and I am a candidate for mayor of the City of Brent, my hometown, for my entire life. I have been married to my wife, Paula Lovelady Smitherman, for over 40 years, and together we have been blessed with two daughters
Jennifer Downs married to Drew Downs and Laura Smitherman, along with five wonderful grandchildren. We are active members of the church I grew up in, Brent Bible Methodist Church.
Over the years, Brent has been fortunate to have dedicated mayors and council members who have kept our community’s best interests at heart. If elected, I will continue that tradition of service and commitment.
I have owned and operated my own business as a general contractor, building quality homes here in Brent and the surrounding area for the past 47 years. From 2000 to 2004, I had the privilege of serving as your mayor, and I am very familiar with the responsibilities and challenges of this position.
With the council’s support, I will continue to seek out grants, work with other agencies, and partner with community organizations to make Brent an even better place for all who call it home.
I would be honored to receive your vote on August 26, 2025.
