On June 9, 2025, law enforcement leaders from across Alabama gathered in Briarwood for the District 2 meeting, hosted by Sheriff Jody Wade, District 2 Director. The event was a strong showing of camaraderie and collaboration, with nine sheriffs in attendance, joined by Alabama Sheriffs Association President Sheriff Billy Murray and ASA Executive Director Sheriff (Ret.) Hoss Mack.

Director Mack opened the meeting with a legislative update, highlighting recent developments impacting law enforcement at the state level. A key point of discussion centered on the growing concern of juveniles being incarcerated as adults in county jails—a challenge that continues to strain local resources and raise legal and ethical questions.

Sheriff Murray also took the opportunity to share updates on two new training initiatives the Alabama Sheriffs Association is developing for 2026 and 2027. These programs aim to enhance professional development and ensure sheriffs across the state are equipped to meet evolving public safety demands.

Director Mack provided an overview of the upcoming ASA Summer Conference, generating excitement for the opportunities it will bring for training, networking, and statewide coordination.

The meeting concluded with a warm sense of brotherhood and shared purpose. Attendees expressed their gratitude to Senator April Weaver, who graciously hosted the event and provided a delicious meal. This gathering marked the fourth District meeting of the year and underscored the continued commitment of Alabama’s sheriffs to leadership, service, and unity.
