We proudly extend our heartfelt congratulations to Firefighter Jason A. Elam on a remarkable achievement that reflects his dedication, perseverance, and commitment to serving our community.

Elam recently completed the Volunteer Firefighter 160 course, Hazmat Awareness & Operations, and the Advanced EMT program through a partnership between Shelton State Community College and Bibb Medical Center. He also successfully passed the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians exam in April—officially earning his status as an Advanced EMT (AEMT).

This impressive accomplishment did not come easily. Over the span of nearly six months, Elam attended classes four nights a week, completed extensive medical rotations in the ER and on ambulances, and took part in demanding weekend training sessions for the 160 class—all while continuing to work a full-time, 40-hour-a-week job. “This journey started a few years ago when I met a young man named Jackson Chance from Brierfield Fire and rescue. I have been blessed with support from my family and so many in this journey. Many ask my plans with all this. It is to continue to volunteer locally and provide much needed services to my community and county. Brent Fire and Rescue are in the early stages and beginning to provide medical support to our area along with our fire services. We hope to be able to with support from others expand services and enhance our ability to respond to emergencies in our area for fire, rescue, and medical needs.” Said Jason

Bibb Medical Center and Shelton State Community College made this opportunity possible through their ongoing collaboration along instructor Andrew Snipes, whose expertise and guidance were instrumental throughout the program.

Montevallo Fire and Rescue graciously hosted the Firefighter 160 course and provided unwavering support and patience throughout the training of these dedicated volunteer firefighters.

Volunteers like Firefighter Elam are the backbone of our emergency response system. Their tireless efforts to train and grow in their roles ensure our community receives high-quality, life-saving services. Elam’s journey is a shining example of the dedication it takes to protect and serve.

Please join us in congratulating Firefighter/AEMT Jason A. Elam on this outstanding milestone!
