Barbara Freeman Obituary

BARBARA DEAN (ELLIOTT) FREEMAN, a devoted woman of faith and quiet grace, went home to be with the Lord on May 11, 2025, in Cottondale, Alabama. She was 88.

Born in Bibb County on July 26, 1936, Barbara was the daughter of the late Joe Elliott, Sr. and the late Ruby Mae Hill Elliott. She was a longtime resident of Centreville before making her home in Clanton in later years.

Barbara was a true Southern lady—soft-spoken but strong in spirit. She dearly loved her family and friends and found joy in the simple, meaningful moments of life. A faithful member of Sandy Chapel Church, Barbara served her congregation by teaching Sunday School and ministering at the Bibb County Jail, sharing her quiet wisdom and deep compassion with those who needed it most.

She loved to travel and made many cherished memories alongside her beloved husband, the late Raymond Freeman. Barbara also had a fondness for antiques, often delighting in the stories they held and sharing her own with gentle humor and a twinkle in her eye.

One of her greatest weekly joys was gathering each Thursday morning for breakfast with her dear lake friends—a treasured ritual full of laughter, friendship, and fellowship. She also found much joy in making every effort to attend games and functions that her grandchildren were involved in.

Barbara’s legacy is one of faith, kindness, and a life well lived in service to others. She will be deeply missed by all who were blessed to know her.
