The Town of West Blocton took a significant step toward revitalizing its Main Street business district with a pre-bid meeting held for the restoration of the old Strand Theater building.

According to West Blocton Mayor Daniel Sims, the restoration project has been a long time coming, involving an extensive process of design and assessing the building’s current condition. Now, with full funding awarded by the Alabama Mining Land Reclamation (AML) program and the Department of Labor, the town is excited to move forward.

“This is going to be great to see one of our historic buildings being renovated,” Sims shared in a post to Facebook. “We are hoping this creates positive energy for more growth in our business district.”

The restoration of the Strand Theater is more than just a construction project; it’s a symbol of West Blocton’s commitment to preserving its history while encouraging economic growth. With the project fully funded and moving into the bidding phase, excitement is building over what the revitalized theater could mean for the community’s future.

“We are very excited about this project, and can’t wait to see it finished,” Sims said.

As plans progress, the town looks forward to the positive impact this restoration will have on West Blocton’s downtown area, with hopes of sparking renewed interest and growth throughout the business district.
