Spruce Up Before the Lilies Bloom: West Blocton Cleanup Day Set for April 19

By Savannah Logan

West Blocton, it’s time to clean up our act — literally. With the Cahaba Lily Festival right around the corner, our town is about to step into the spotlight. Visitors from all over come to see our rare and beautiful lilies, but while they’re here, they’ll also be seeing us. Let’s make sure what they see is a community that’s clean, welcoming, and proud of where we live.

On Saturday, April 19, 2025, from 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM, everyone is invited to join in for West Blocton Cleanup Day. Folks will be meeting right in front of Town Hall — look for the smiling people, the trash bags, and probably someone turning litter-picking into a full-blown competition. Whether you’re a seasoned volunteer or just someone who hates seeing a gum wrapper in the wild, your efforts are more than welcome.

This isn’t just a cleanup — it’s a community celebration. Come ready to help out, laugh a little, and maybe win a prize or two. Yes, giveaways are being offered. Why? Because picking up garbage is more fun when you might walk away with something shiny (besides a soda can). There may even be an unofficial, highly prestigious “Fastest Trash Picker in Town” title up for grabs — but don’t let it go to your head.

Lunch will be provided, so you won’t be working on an empty stomach. Just make sure to RSVP so they know how many sandwiches to slap together. You can reach out to Holly Barnett at councildistrict3@townofwestblocton.org or Brandy Fancher at townclerk@townofwestblocton.org to let them know you’re coming.

Everyone’s welcome — kids, grandparents, the neighbor who’s been meaning to get more involved. Let’s come together to show just how much pride we take in our little corner of the world. West Blocton is a great place to live, and with a little teamwork, it’ll shine even brighter for all to see.
