Friday’s events kicked off with the dairy cattle portion of the show, where five contestants demonstrated their showmanship skills and industry knowledge. Participants were quizzed on dairy cattle facts, showcasing both their hands-on abilities and expertise in the field.
Beef Cattle Competition – February 15
On Saturday, the focus shifted to beef cattle, with seven competitors presenting various breeds, including Hereford, Angus, and Charolais. A special highlight of the day was the Novice Showmanship Class, giving first-time participants a chance to step into the ring and experience a judged competition firsthand.
Holly Hall expressed her gratitude to the event sponsors—Bibb County ALFA, Shelby County Cattlemen’s Association, Alabama Farmers Co-Op, and Coosa Valley Milling—as well as the Shelby County Extension and Shelby County 4-H teams for their invaluable support.
“I started this event with just an idea on a scratch piece of paper, and to see it come to life was truly incredible,” said Holly.
The event was a great success, reinforcing the importance of agricultural education and hands-on learning for young 4-H participants.
