City of Centreville Hosts Grand Opening for New Community Storm Shelter

The City of Centreville celebrated the grand opening of its new community storm shelter on Friday, March 7th, at 4:30 p.m. Storm shelters are designed to withstand high winds, flying debris, and other hazards associated with severe storms. Tornadoes, hurricanes, and even severe thunderstorms can produce deadly conditions, and having a reinforced space to take cover significantly reduces the risk of injury or fatality. According to the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), a properly constructed storm shelter can survive even EF-5 tornadoes, which produce winds exceeding 200 miles per hour.

The shelter is conveniently located next to the Bibb County School Bus Shop and Ted’s Tire on Old 382. It is open to anyone in need of shelter.
