Alabama Auditor Andrew Sorrell Announces Run for Secretary of State

State Auditor Andrew Sorrell announced on Monday that he will run as a Republican candidate for Alabama Secretary of State in the 2026 election, citing a commitment to preserving honest elections and protecting the state’s ballot box from manipulation.
“Alabama needs a dedicated conservative who will protect our elections from fraud and prevent ineligible individuals, including illegal immigrants, from registering to vote,” Sorrell stated. “As Secretary of State, I will ensure that every honest vote is counted fairly and those who attempt to cheat at the polls are held accountable.”
Sorrell highlighted that the 2022 Constitution and the Code of Alabama assign over 1,000 duties to the Secretary of State, many related to supporting businesses from large corporations to small, family-owned stores. He promised to handle these responsibilities efficiently, ensuring cost savings for taxpayers.
Since taking office as state auditor in 2022, Sorrell has saved taxpayers substantial amounts by forgoing the use of a state vehicle, reorganizing office staff, and leaving an administrative position unfilled. He previously served in the Alabama House of Representatives, where he earned a reputation as one of the state’s most conservative legislators. In 2020, he was honored with the “Conservative Policy Order” award from the Alabama Policy Institute and received a perfect 100 rating on the American Conservative Union’s scorecard in 2021.
“I was DOGE before DOGE was cool,” Sorrell quipped, referring to his consistent support for smaller government and lower taxes, which often led to disagreements with political leaders and lobbyists. “But I stayed true to my conservative values and always slept well at night.”
A serial entrepreneur, Sorrell started his first business at 16 and now owns four Alabama-based businesses, employing around 20 people. He and his wife, Hannah, whom he met in 2016 while on a church history tour in Rome, have two daughters, Liberty and Glory. Sorrell comes from a long line of preachers, with both his father and grandfather having served in ministry.
