West Blocton Varsity Tigers Defeats Montevallo Varsity Bulldogs in Pitcher’s Duel

Both teams were strong on the bump on Saturday, but West Blocton Varsity Tigers defeated Montevallo Varsity Bulldogs 3-2. Matthew Patton started the game for West Blocton Varsity Tigers and recorded 17 outs.
Montevallo Varsity Bulldogs opened the scoring in the first after #8 hit a solo home run to left field.
West Blocton Varsity Tigers captured the lead, 3-1, in the bottom of the first when Patton grounded out, scoring two runs, and Hunter Spencer doubled, scoring one run.
Patton earned the win for West Blocton Varsity Tigers. The righty allowed five hits and one run over five and two-thirds innings, striking out five and walking two. #8 took the loss for Montevallo Varsity Bulldogs. The starting pitcher went six innings, allowing three runs (two earned) on seven hits, striking out seven and walking one. Jackson Dial appeared in relief for West Blocton Varsity Tigers.
Alex Brand and Caden Fancher were a force together in the lineup, as they each collected two hits for West Blocton Varsity Tigers. Patton and Spencer were a one-two punch in the lineup, as each drove in one run for West Blocton Varsity Tigers. Brand, Fancher, and Cooper Deerman each stole multiple bases for West Blocton Varsity Tigers. West Blocton Varsity Tigers ran wild on the base paths, collecting six stolen bases for the game. West Blocton Varsity Tigers turned one double play in the game.
#8 provided pop in the middle of the lineup, and led Montevallo Varsity Bulldogs with two runs batted in. The pitcher went 2-for-3 on the day.
