West Blocton Baseball Kicks Off Season with Strong Start

By Savannah Logan

The West Blocton High School baseball team is off to an encouraging start under the leadership of new head coach Stephen Clements. The team currently stands at 1-1 and is set to play back-to-back home games today and tomorrow.

The Tigers opened their season last Friday night with a 3-1 victory over Pickens Academy. Pitcher Brodie Jackson delivered an outstanding performance on the mound, throwing a complete game one-hitter. The team showcased strong defensive play behind him, setting a solid foundation for the season.

Coach Clements acknowledged that while the team has work to do offensively, he has already seen promising improvements in their approach at the plate. “We have a long way to go at the plate, but I think we will get there,” Clements said. “We have worked hard on our approach, and I can already see a few good swings. The guys are buying in and working really hard, and I am excited to see them progress.”

The season opener was made even more memorable by a spectacular fireworks show, generously donated by Uncle Pete’s Pyro Place. The display capped off an exciting evening and added to the sense of community support surrounding the team.

As the Tigers continue their season, Coach Clements and his players are committed to building on their early success. The community is encouraged to come out and support the Tigers at their upcoming home games as they strive for a strong season.
