Bibb Treasure Forest Group Meeting for February
Roger Brothers
At the last meeting our own Trudy Murphy gave an interesting invasive species presentation for our January meeting. I want her to do it again sometime this year so stay tuned if you missed it.
For our next session we have our own Rice Nichols who will give the presentation for February on Thursday the 27th at 6:00 pm at the Brent Centreville library and will be Prescribed Fire as a Tool for Private Landowners. Rice is from Chambers Co. Alabama. Rice graduated from Auburn University last year with a degree in forestry-engineering and is working as a resource management forester for a forestry company in West Alabama. Rice was home schooled and her interest in fire and forestry was sparked by her participation in 4-H program. So happy to have her in our group!
For the March program we will be blessed with another young Forester, Jace McCauley Jace is a tree improvement specialist (involved with tree genetics) a field I was engaged in when genetic improvement of trees was just taking off 50 years ago. Jace is the Forest Improvement Analyst for a large west Alabama forest industry. In his role, he assists with pine seed collection, tree measurement and selection, and tree pollinating strategies. From an early age Jace enjoyed getting to spend time playing in the woods and not much has changed today. He received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Auburn University focusing on landowner engagement and consulting forester usage, hosting podcasts and videos aimed to help landowners apply forest management to their property. Don’t miss these promising young foresters!
