Amelia Gayle Gorgas Chapter member and Bankhead District Director Leigh Bearden gave a presentation and discussion on fashions and dress during the Anti Bellum and Victorian Years to the Greene County Historical Society. The program came at the end of their weeklong annual Tour of Homes and fundraising dinner at Everhope Plantation. Leigh was dressed in her Reverie Jacket for day. Carole Henry, Gorgas #2117 Chapter President joined her dressed in her Zouve Jacket in traditional red and black. Husband Mr. Bill Henry represented the Southern Gentleman. Leigh discussed how styles and fashions changed during the 19″ century and how some of those changes may be reflected in some of the fine homes owned or restored by members of the Society. The width of stairwells or height of handrails being two examples of changes in the homes. The program ended with a question and answer session including what women wore under their dresses to give the dresses the iconic beli shape.
