Once a year in October, Paul and Cherry Bryant host the area UDC chapters, MOS&B, and Sons of the Confederacy for a day at their farm in Boligee, Alabama. Nine of our chapter members attended and four of us dressed in period clothes. Two of our husbands dressed up also. We met at BethSalem Presbyterian Church for a program, led by our member Judy Spree.
We then lay a wreath on a monument at the cemetery where there are over 200 unidentified soldiers buried. From the church we traveled the short distance to the farm where we enjoyed music by the Fifth Alabama Infantry Band in which our UDC member Patricia Caddis plays with the band. We sang many of the old Civil War songs before we enjoyed the fried catfish, slaw, hushpuppies, and cookies cooked to perfection. The weather was beautiful so we all enjoyed being outside singing and being together. Thank you to the Bryants for being such wonderful hosts each year.
