John Thomas McMillan Jr. (“JT”) passed away peacefully at his home on January 19, 2025, at the age of 82. Born on December 18, 1942 in Brent, Alabama, he was a graduate of Bibb County High School, class of 1961.

JT proudly served in the Alabama National Guard for nine years and contributed to his community as a member on the Peoples Bank Board of Directors for 20 years. He was known as a successful businessman, owning and operating Centreville Lumber Company, JT McMillan & Sons Dairy Farm, and JT McMillan & Sons Logging for numerous years.

A devoted member of Liberty Freewill Baptist Church, JT was known for his faith, hard work, and dedication to his family.

On September 7, 1962, JT married his high school sweetheart, Mattie Ree McMillan, and together they shared 62 wonderful years of marriage.

He is preceded in death by his parents Annie Lee & John Thomas McMillan Sr, his sister Tammy Peterson, and his son Barry McMillan. JT is survived by his loving wife Mattie Ree, sons Brad (Kim) McMillan and Brian (April) McMillan, and eight grandchildren: Jarrod (Sofia), Brendan, Bret (Megan), Ben (Jasmine), Jordan, Savannah, Jackson, and John Luke. He is also survived by five great-grandchildren: Jake, Mia, Blair, AnnieLee, and Julian, as well as his sister Faye Brazier.

JT’s legacy of love, service, and dedication to his family and community will live on in the hearts of those who knew him.
