In this edition of Community Connect, we’re highlighting Wendy Argo, a dedicated member of Cahawba Christian Academy (CCA) and a familiar face to many in the Bibb County community. From her roots in nearby Pea Ridge to her current role as secretary at CCA, Wendy’s journey reflects a deep commitment to family, faith, and education. Her story offers a glimpse into how CCA has shaped her life and, in turn, how she has impacted the lives of countless students and families over the years.

Tell us about your family!

“I grew up in Pea Ridge, just over the Shelby County/Bibb County line with my parents Cliff and Linda Boothe and my little brothers, Ben and Jay. My mom was a teacher at Shelby Academy when I started school so education was a big deal for us growing up.”

How long have you been a part of the Bibb County community?

“I met my husband, Benny Argo, Jr. in 1988 and we were married in 1992. I have officially been a part of the Bibb County community for 32 and a half years! We have two adult children, Savannah and Andrew. Savannah and her husband, Tony, have blessed us by adding a beautiful granddaughter to our family this year.

What is your role at CCA?

“I am the Secretary at Cahawba Christian Academy, but I have served as a substitute teacher, an Elementary PE teacher, a First-Grade teacher (my students are 10th graders now!), Art teacher, Archery Coach, Daycare worker, and Lunch Lady!”

How did your family find CCA?

“When my daughter finished Elementary school at Randolph Elementary School, I homeschooled her from 6th grade through 8th grade. I was concerned about teaching Algebra and my sister-in-law invited me to tour Cahawba Christian Academy with her as she was looking to enroll her children (I didn’t even know it existed until that point!) My daughter was actually excited about starting classes at CCA so we jumped right in and signed both of my children up! My son began CCA in 2nd grade and my daughter began 9th grade in 2011. My daughter graduated from CCA in 2015 and went to the University of Montevallo, graduated with her BS in Mass Communication in May of 2020, got married to a fellow CCA alumni and they have a baby now! My son graduated from CCA in 2022 and is currently earning his BS in Cyber Security from Columbia Southern University.”

How has being a part of the CCA family affected your family’s life?

“After I began working at CCA, I was amazed at the love and dedication that the faculty and staff showed! With little federal or state funding, this school has been able to meet the State Education requirements because of faithful Christian teachers with servant hearts! In addition to education, the teachers help teach students about salvation and the love that God has for them. It has been my privilege to watch so many students accept Jesus as their Lord and Savior! CCA has been vital in establishing a firm spiritual foundation as well as the essential education needed in today’s society to ensure a successful life for our children.  I am so grateful that we found CCA!”

What are some ways that you have seen CCA grow over the years?

“Over the years, I have seen the school implement and utilize the Title I program which has provided students with tutoring through the Bibb County Board of Education.  One of the biggest accomplishments has been the ability to meet the requirements to be accredited through Cognia, the same accreditation that the public school system has.”

Do you have any pets?

“Our family has 4 very spoiled cats-Marceline, Calpurrnia, Celty, and OK. We also recently rescued a dog and named him Buckwheat.”

What’s your favorite way to unwind after a long week?

“After a long week at school, I love to spend time with my family.  It doesn’t matter what we are doing, just being with them is my favorite thing to do! One of our favorite family hobbies is archery. We are members of the Alabama Society of Traditional Bowmen which has tournaments at Brierfield Ironworks Park. We have all brought home trophies at one time or another.”

What’s one Bible verse in particular you try to live by?

“I tried to live by the verses Colossians 3:12-17 . ‘Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourself with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. Bear with each other and forgive whatever grievances you may have against one another. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity. Let the Peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful. Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom, and as you sing psalms, hymns and spiritual songs with gratitude in your hearts to God. And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.’”

In your opinion, how do you think CCA positively impacts the community?

“In my opinion I believe that CCA has positively impacted the community by providing a Christ-centered education that is able to demonstrate grace and mercy in situations that the public school is not allowed to do. Over the last 10 years, I have watched CCA alumni become valuable members of the community.  They are preachers, teachers, law enforcement officers, business owners, and most importantly, they have begun families who have stayed in Bibb County to raise the next generation.  I have had the pleasure of watching alumni bring their children to CCA for their education. I cannot wait to see what the future generations of Cahawba Christian Academy bring to the county!”

Wendy Argo’s passion for Cahawba Christian Academy is evident in every role she has taken on, from teacher to coach to her current position as secretary. Her love for education, family, and her community shines through in her words and actions. As CCA continues to grow and nurture future generations, Wendy’s story serves as a reminder of the school’s mission to provide not only quality education but also a firm spiritual foundation. Through her dedication, she has played a part in building a stronger, faith-filled Bibb County community — one student at a time.
