Community Connect Feature: Ty Corbell, County Commissioner for District 4
By Savannah Logan
Ty Corbell, Bibb County Commissioner for District 4, is a man deeply rooted in family, community, and service. Balancing the demands of his business, Bounce Rentals 4 You, and his role as a full-time commissioner, Ty remains a dedicated leader in Bibb County. We caught up with him to learn more about his family life, his values, and his approach to leadership.
Tell us about your family!
“I’m married to Catrina Corbell, a Nurse Practitioner with Cahaba Medical Care. We have four children—ages 15, 14, 9, and 2—and we currently have our great niece and nephew with us as well. I’m involved in several things, but primarily, I run Bounce Rentals 4 You and try to be as much of a full-time County Commissioner as possible.”
How has your family influenced your approach to leadership, both in business and as a county commissioner?
“Having a family and children who see what I do on a daily basis is a huge part of my life. I try to show them that doing right by others will never be a bad thing.”
What role does family play in your decision-making process when it comes to serving Bibb County?
“I use my own family and situations we’ve been in over the years to help me determine how to approach issues that people bring before me. Asking others to do something that you wouldn’t want your own family to do is not a good idea!”
Has your family been involved in Bounce Rentals 4 You, and if so, how has this strengthened your business?
“All of our family helps with the business. We’ve spent many days running around delivering and setting up inflatables or our 360 Photo Booth. It’s definitely strengthened our bond.”
What values did you grow up with that you strive to pass on to your own children and your community?
“I grew up at Crystal Lake in the Lasses community. We spent a lot of days gardening, baling hay, shelling peas—it was a lot of work but also taught the value of working hard and seeing the fruits of that labor. I’ve tried to teach my kids those values, just in a different way.”
What has been your proudest accomplishment as a Bibb County Commissioner so far?
“One of the proudest moments for me as a commissioner so far is the storm and tornado shelters we’ve been able to put in very rural communities in the county.”
How does your business, Bounce Rentals 4 You, contribute to the community, especially in creating fun and safe experiences for families?
“With our business, we try to give back to the community as much as possible. We sponsor several events and support local schools and ballparks. The kids at school know whoever asks me first gets my money! We literally go through the messages to see who asked first. The softball team and cheer squad are the two that compete the hardest.”
What initiatives or changes have you been a part of in Bibb County that you believe have made the biggest impact on the community?
“As commissioners, we really want what’s best for everyone and try to help as much as possible. We initiated a game plan to purchase better equipment for all departments and give our personnel the opportunity for improvement and success in what they do.”
In what ways do you see local businesses driving community growth and engagement in Bibb County?
“We have a very giving county. There are countless events throughout the year, and our local businesses always show up by sponsoring and investing in the community that holds these events.”
How do you stay connected to the needs and concerns of local families and small business owners in the county?
“I’m constantly speaking with families and business owners throughout the county. Whether it’s good news, bad news, or just wanting to bounce ideas back and forth, it helps me stay connected.”
What inspired you to pursue public service?
“Just having a willingness to do for others mainly contributed to me wanting to run for public office.”
You’ve been given a time machine to attend any concert or tour – who are you going to see?
“If I had a time machine, I’d probably want to see Michael Jackson in the early ‘80s.”
What’s your favorite way to unwind after a long week?
“After a long week, I enjoy hanging with my family and, when possible, watching sports of any kind. I might even sneak in a round of golf.”
What is your favorite meal?
“My favorite meal is a steak from Diamond Jim’s if we’re going out to eat, but I also enjoy a good bowl of butter beans and cornbread with hot sauce whenever I can get them!”
What is a motto you live by?
“Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.”
Ty Corbell’s commitment to his family and his community is evident in everything he does. Whether through his business or his public service, his goal is always to lift others up and do right by them.
