Join the Alabama Master Gardener Program: Cultivate Your Passion for Plants and Community
By Savannah Logan
The Alabama Cooperative Extension System’s Master Gardener Program offers the perfect opportunity for you to expand your gardening knowledge while giving back to your community. This volunteer program is designed for those with a desire to learn, grow, and help others flourish.
Master Gardeners are volunteers trained to provide research-based gardening information to their communities. By joining this program, you’ll gain valuable horticultural knowledge and have the chance to share it with others, helping to improve the quality of life in your community.
To participate in the upcoming program, applications are open from November 1st through 30th, with an early bird fee of $150 if you apply by November 15th. After that date, the regular course fee is $175. Once you’ve applied, you’ll need to complete a background check during the month of December, between the 1st and 31st. The classes for this program will run from January 30th to May 1st.
To apply, first visit the Alabama Extension website to view the county training schedule and determine when sessions are available in your area. Once you’ve checked the schedule, submit your application online. After applying, you can pay the course fee through the same portal. In December, you will need to complete a background check, with detailed instructions provided via email. Please note that after the background check is submitted, only partial refunds of $100 are available due to administrative fees.
Joining the Alabama Master Gardener Program is more than just an educational experience; it’s a chance to make a meaningful impact on your community. Whether you’re a seasoned gardener or just starting out, this program will help you grow your skills and connect with others who share your passion for gardening.
