Senator April Weaver Awards $50,000 Legislative Grant to Woodstock Community Library Building Fund

Woodstock, Ala. July 12, 2024 – Senator April Weaver has awarded a $50,000 legislative grant to the Woodstock Community Library building fund. The grant presentation was attended by Mayor Jeff Dodson, Woodstock Library board members Billie Daily, Mary Price, Anne Kornegay, Emily Ellison, and Library Director Michele Baucom Dickey. 

Dodson said, “This grant is a significant step towards moving the Woodstock Community Library into a centralized location, and enhancing its capacity to serve the expanding community as the Town of Woodstock grows. We are grateful for Senator Weaver’s pivotal support for literacy and the Woodstock Community Library, and we look forward to seeing the positive impact this grant will have here in Woodstock.” 

 

Senator Weaver shared, “Libraries are cornerstones of our communities. They provide a safe and welcoming space for individuals of all ages to learn about freedom, civic engagement, and connect with community. This grant is an investment in our future, ensuring that the Woodstock Community Library can continue to serve and enrich our region for generations to come.” 

The Woodstock Community Library, although modest in size, serves patrons from Bibb, Tuscaloosa, Jefferson, and Shelby Counties. It offers access to books, computer and printing services, and free 24/7 parking lot Wi-Fi. Children’s story time takes place every Tuesday at 2:00 PM, and two computers are available for learning new skills. 

The library also allocates a small office space to the 501(c)(3) Alabama Suicide Prevention and Resources Coalition and a regional West Alabama Works Job Bank Kiosk. Library Director Michele Baucom Director Michele Dickey expressed her gratitude to Senator Weaver for her long-standing community engagement at the Woodstock Community Library. “This new building will be a testament to what can be achieved when we come together with a shared vision, The Woodstock Community Library building fund project highlights the importance of service and volunteerism as well and we want to take this opportunity to thank and acknowledge the contributions of Mrs. Linda Deloach, Mrs. Diane Chesser, and Mrs. Nell Sansing Mathews for their long-time and continued support as volunteers at the library, leading the Genealogy Class and Basket Class, respectively,” said Director Michele Dickey. 

Thanks, was also given to WBHS graduate Dauton Moore, the library’s faithful Tuesday volunteer. This collaborative effort underscores the power of community partnerships and the shared commitment to improving the quality of life for all residents.
