Wayne Hollifield, age 79, of Brent, Alabama, passed away Saturday, October 21, 2023, at the Palliative Care Unit at UAB Hospital in Birmingham, AL. Funeral services were held Tuesday, October 24, 2023, at 2:00 P.M. at Bethel Baptist Church in Brent, Alabama with graveside services and burial following in Pineland Memorial Park. Bro. Scott Peters, Pastor of Bethel Baptist Church, Bro. Ken Fuller, Pastor of Centreville Baptist Church, and Bro. Reuben Compere, Pastor Emeritus of Bethel Baptist Church officiated. Visitation was held at the church on Tuesday from 12 noon until service time at 2:00 P.M.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Hollie Hollifield; parents, Robert Earl Hollifield and Ola Myrtle Breland Hollifield; brother, Edward Earl Hollifield; and sister, Bobbie Nell Belcher.
Wayne is survived by his wife of 52 years, Rita Hollifield, of Brent, AL; daughter, Christina Hollifield Dellinger (Stewart), of Brent, AL; granddaughters Hannah Elizabeth Dellinger, Sarah Grace Dellinger, and Abigail Faith Dellinger, all of Brent, AL; sisters, Sarah Lightsey, of Centreville, AL and Judy Riser, of Brent, AL.
Wayne was born July 15, 1944, to the late Robert Earl and Ola Myrtle Breland Hollifield. He was owner and operator of Piggly Wiggly in Brent. Wayne was a devoted husband, father, grandfather. He was faithful member and deacon at Bethel Baptist Church.
Pallbearers were Stewart Dellinger, Leroy Russell, Jerry Bailey, GW Young, Preston James, Darryl Lightsey, Robby Hollifield, Caden Belcher, and Bill Riser.
