The long awaited and much anticipated grand opening of the Bibb Medical Health & Wellness Center happened on May 2, 2022 and a large crowd was on hand to celebrate the event.
The 28,000 Sq. Ft. facility offers a full range of services and amenities to citizens ranging in age from children to seniors.
The competition style gymnasium features a high-tech floating floor. The gym space will be available for free style play, organized leagues, group dance instruction and group therapy sessions. Men and Women’s shower rooms feature available locker space.
Adjoining the gymnasium are two large classrooms with garage style doors that open to the outdoors. The heated therapeutic pool gets a lot of attention. The 3 ft 9” deep grouted tile pool can be used for exercise classes, range of motion therapy, aqua aerobics, or for lap swimming. Children can access the pool when accompanied by parents or adults.
The center of the building encompasses a large open fitness area filled with exercise equipment. There is a free standing open exercise space for group events. The north end also contains a community event space, an administrative or community conference room, and houses wellness services.
Also featured in the building is an outpatient physical therapy provider and a child play care center staffed with child care professionals. Restore Physical Therapy provides on site physical, speech, and occupational therapy services.
One of the most attractive features for young adult families to attract their participation in fitness programs is the availability of child care while parents are exercising, included as part of the membership package.
Bibb Medical CEO Joseph Marchant welcomed over 300 guests to the ribbon cutting ceremony today. Marchant, along with the Board of Directors for the Bibb County Health Care Authority, cut the ceremonial ribbon to officially open the facility. Marchant said the planning for this facility dates back to 2013 when the hospital board began to lay long term plans.
Program Director Jami Parnell and her staff were busy signing up new members and she said that by the end of business today over 700 memberships had been opened for the new facility. Membership pricing is structured for single, family, and senior memberships.
Brent Belcher, Chairman of the Bibb Health Care Authority, said he has served with the hospital board since the early 1970’s and the Health & Wellness Center represents the first time a client or patient of Bibb Medical will be able to access planned services for true preventive medicine purposes for all ages of people, which the modern exercise facility represents. “For the first time in its history local residents will have a reason to visit the facilities without needing to be sick as the reason for the visit. The whole point of healtcare is to provide a range of services to get people well” said Belcher. He also went on to say that this facility does not end the long range planning the board has been doing. “There is more to come, including an assisted living facility, expanding the emergency room, separating outpatient care from ER facilities and providing 24/7 patient coverage”, said Belcher.
The new facility will be open from 5 a.m. to 10 p.m. Mon-Thurs and until 8 p.m. on Friday. Saturday hours are 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. Closed on Sunday.
